Choose how you move
Data Orchard was commissioned to research and track patterns of travel behaviour in the City of Hereford between 2017 and 2022.
This was commissioned by Herefordshire Council to assess the effectiveness of their Choose How You Move programme for more sustainable and active travel into and around the city.
Research and analysis
We began by reviewing questionnaires and analysis from previous tracking studies which had been completed annually since 2012. Each year from 2017 to 2022 we conducted interviews with 250-300 people who had travelled into Hereford. These were initially face to face interviews in public places. The study was suspended in 2020-2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and resumed again in 2022 with interviews conducted over the telephone.
We used quota sampling, and after data input and analysis, produced a summary and detailed report. The questions used in the interviews were amended over-time to capture the impact of new initiatives such as 'Beryl's bikes' while retaining the ability to analyse the trends since 2012.
