Google Mobility data For Herefordshire
About this dataset
As part of the response to Covid-19 Google has begun publishing data on how visits to places, such as grocery stores and parks, are changing in each geographic region. We extract this data for Herefordshire on a daily basis to help people organisations in the county understand how the county is responding. This is part of our additional data for Herefordshire project.
The x marks indicate the data as received from Google. The line indicates a 7 day rolling average which we calculate from the Google data.
About the places
Google decides what locations to include in the different categories. This is how they describe them:
Grocery & pharmacy: places like grocery markets, food warehouses, farmers markets, specialty food shops, drug stores, and pharmacies.
Parks: places like local parks, national parks, public beaches, marinas, dog parks, plazas, and public gardens.
Stations (Google calls them “Transit stations”): places like public transport hubs such as subway, bus, and train stations.
Retail & recreation: places like restaurants, cafes, shopping centers, theme parks, museums, libraries, and movie theaters.
Residential: places of residence.
Workplaces: places of work
About the chart
Changes for each day are compared to a baseline value for that day of the week:
The baseline is the median value, for the corresponding day of the week, during the 5-week period Jan 3–Feb 6, 2020.
The datasets show trends over several months with the most recent data representing approximately 2-3 days ago—this is how long it takes to produce the datasets.
Using this data
This is Google’s data. They collect it, process it and share it in accordance with their internal procedures.
We can’t vouch for the data directly and we strongly recommend that you shouldn’t make decisions based on this dataset alone. You might want to examine it alongside the population movement data.

Missing data: issue seems to have been resolved now

We have temporarily suspended updates in some categories to prepare for an improvement to how we’ll compute retail, recreation and other categories. The upcoming update will ensure consistency in the way that the data is being reported. We are working to resume updates as soon as possible.
