Assessing data maturity leads to better discussions, strategy and resources
Organisations that used Data Orchard's Data Maturity Assessment Tool learned more about data maturity, had better discussions in their organisation and were almost always successful at securing resources for data according to a report published today.
The Data Maturity Assessment Tool (which is free for smaller organisations) is a series of questions asked online. As a result of the answers the tool predicts where the organisation is in terms of seven themes of data maturity.
Data Orchard asked all those who used the tool between November 2020 and March 2022 to complete a survey revealing how they had found the experience and what benefits they had seen. The results have been analysed by Data Orchard and published in an Impact Report.
Business and Sales Analyst Libby Harkins who analysed the data said:
‘We found that people are likely to agree that they have learned about data maturity following a data maturity assessment. They also reported that taking a data maturity assessment prompts sharing and discussions about data within organisations.’
‘Around 40% of organisations go on to implement a data strategy after taking an assessment. That's a really exciting finding given that a data strategy is an important way to improve data use in non-profit organisations.’
Data Orchard Co-chief Executive, Sian Basker, who leads the social enterprise's work on data maturity said:
‘The results were broadly in line with our previous Impact Report and back up our theory that taking a data maturity assessment is an important way to catalyse conversations and improvement around data and analysis in non-profit organisations.’
